Asaa – family idyll

Foto: Mette Johnsen

On the beautiful and child-friendly east coast of North Jutland, you'll find Asaa, a true holiday gem. Asaa Harbor offers genuine harbor charm with rows of historical, red-painted fishing houses that, during the summer period, provide the backdrop for several artisans' exhibitions.

Here, you can enjoy yourself among yachtsmen and local fishermen, with both culture and social interaction – and perhaps a well-deserved ice cream. At the harbor, you can visit a small museum featuring fishing equipment, engines, navigation gear, and more. Every Sunday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM in July and August, a flea market is held at the harbor, and in July, you can get into a festive mood at the annual Asaa Harbor Festival. You can also sail to Asaa year-round as the fairway is permanently navigable, so you won't run aground.

Perfect by nature

Just south of the harbor lies the finest wide, white sandy beach, reportedly the best on the east coast. Nature's own water park with perfect conditions for both children and their parents. Shallow and safe water with just the right amount of waves. With a blue flag and a beach that invites a multitude of activities.

The meadows around Asaa have been designated a wildlife reserve by the Danish Ministry of Environment and Energy. The area is a sort of mini-Wadden Sea and a perfect pit stop, pantry, and breeding area for migratory birds. Every spring and autumn, bird enthusiasts from near and far are drawn to the area to experience and observe the many bird species passing through.

Taste the joy

One of the highlights of summer is the horse race, a traditional festive day that attracts thousands of guests. There are also a variety of activities based around Asaa Camping. Here, you can try Kitesurfing or a trip in a sea kayak, and there are plenty of cycling and hiking routes.

The waters off Asaa are popular among kitesurfers, ranging from experienced ones with many hours on the water to beginners trying it for the first time.
